When the last closing party wraps up in October, Ibiza doesn't shut down, it exhales. From November to April the island becomes something else: slower, quieter and, to many of us, more beautiful. I've been driving these roads for twelve years, and if I'm honest, winter is my favourite time here. It's also when having someone you trust behind the wheel makes the biggest difference.
I'm Ilian. I work alone, with my Mercedes V-Class, and I know this island in every season. Let me tell you what Ibiza is really like off-season, and why a private driver matters even more in these months.
A quieter, more real island
In the low season Ibiza belongs again to those of us who live here. The old town streets empty out, parking stops being a nightmare, and you can sit for a coffee in a village without waiting for a table. The winter light is different too: low, golden, perfect for walking through Dalt Vila without the heat or the crowds.
I won't pretend otherwise: many beach clubs, hotels and nightclubs close until spring. That's part of the charm, but it also means you need to know where to go. That's exactly where a local comes in.
The airport never closes
A common question: yes, flights run all year and airport transfers operate as normal. Ibiza stays well connected to Barcelona, Madrid, Palma and several European cities through the winter.
The difference is what waits for you when you land. In summer there's a line of taxis; in January, often there isn't. With late or delayed flights, you can end up standing in the terminal longer than you'd like. When you book with me, I'm there when you walk out, car warm and your name on the door, whether it's raining or cold.
Why a private chauffeur matters more in winter
In high season you'll always find a taxi eventually. In the off-season, not always. There are fewer taxis on the road, the villages are spread far apart, and public transport thins out. If it rains, and in winter it does, waiting by the roadside stops being pleasant.
A private chauffeur gives you something that's worth gold in these months: certainty. You know someone will arrive on time, knows the way to that hidden restaurant out in the countryside, and won't leave you stranded at a wet junction. I work over WhatsApp, so I'm always just a message away.
What to do in Ibiza in winter, by road
There's far more island than most people imagine, and in winter you enjoy it better:
- Dalt Vila: the walled UNESCO old town is magical without the crowds. I'll drop you at the foot and pick you up when you come down.
- Markets: Las Dalias on Saturdays and other local markets keep their craft and life going all year round.
- Restaurants that stay open: many of my favourites are countryside spots that only shine in winter, with stews, rice dishes and good wine. I'll take you to the ones still open.
- Quiet beaches: Cala d'Hort facing Es Vedrà, Benirràs, Cala Salada... empty, wild and perfect for a winter walk.
- Viewpoints: sunset from Es Vedrà or the heights of Sant Josep is pure silence at this time of year.
A day like that, unhurried, stopping wherever you like, is the best way to see the real Ibiza.
Book ahead
I work alone by choice: I want to look after each guest personally. That also means I can only be in one place at a time. The off-season is calmer, but there are also fewer cars available on the island overall, so give me some notice, especially for early flights or transfers over the holidays like Christmas and New Year's Eve.
